How Does US Powerball Power Play Work?

The Power Play multiplier increases the secondary prizes in the US Powerball, as shown in the table above. To get these augmented prizes, you have to match the required Powerball numbers for a secondary prize category. If you do, and you have Power Play on your ticket, then you are in for a fortune.

After the US Powerball officials draw the main numbers and the Powerball, they also draw the Power Play number. The numbers that go into the Power Play barrel are 2, 3, 4, and 5. When the jackpot is $150 million or lower, the number 10 is also added to the barrel. The drawn Power Play number determines the number of times that secondary prizes are increased.

For example, if the Power Play number of the draw is 3 and you’ve been lucky enough to scoop the $50,000 3rd prize, then the multiplier will up your prize to $150,000. Considering the small investment required for a Power Play entry, this is one feature you should not overlook!
